Alabama Investment Credit
Publication revised September 24, 2026. Sourcebook page 23.
Credit amount / calculation
Up to 1.5% of qualified capital investment annually for up to 10 years, with possible extensions for designated project types.
Business fit and eligible activity
Certified manufacturers can receive multi-year credits for qualified capital investment; useful for larger fixed-facility expansions. Qualified investment or approved project activity; confirm eligible property, location and taxpayer type. Page
Eligibility and practical use
This is the kind of credit that can matter to a capital-intensive mill even when the project adds only a handful of jobs. Logging equipment deserves a separate eligibility check because mobile harvesting property may be treated differently from machinery used at a manufacturing site. Check the approval deadline before signing a purchase order or contract. A binding commitment made too early can disqualify a project.
Illustrative business benefit
If an approved project has $2 million of qualified investment and its agreement awards 1.5% annually for ten years, the credit is $30,000 per year and $300,000 over the full term. Annual use limits and continuing compliance determine the amount actually realized.
Timing / first action
Seek approval before signing a purchase order, contract, lease or other binding commitment. Confirm the exact point at which a purchase order, contract, lease, or other binding commitment would make the project ineligible.
